J. Parrish & Son was founded back in 1920 by John Parrish, the current John Parrish's Grand Father, who moved to our present premises from Cambridgeshire. Like most farmers of that era, not only did he grow agricultural produce, he also transported it to local markets and wholesalers.
With the downturn in the agricultural industry
in the late 1980’s,
J. Parrish & Son made the tough decision to diversify away from main stream
intensive farming and concentrate on the secondary side to the business…..
transport.
In 1988 J. Parrish & Son acquired “Shefford Crane Hire”, a small local machinery transport company with a well founded reputation. The acquisition comprised of one lorry and a small local customer base.
With this good foundation in place, John and David Parrish have built on and expanded the business including venturing into Europe. The business has grown from a initial turnover of £30K in its first year to over £1 million in 2000.
The expansion continues today with more and more customers demanding their transport and installation requirements are carried out by one specialist contractor.
Our early move into European transport has
stood us in good stead for today's machine tool client base.
